SOM holds high AdZU banner at nat’l med school confab

The Ateneo de Zamboanga School of Medicine led by its dean Fortunato Cristobal, together with SOM faculty and alumni Dr Erwin Barrios (MD 2003) and Dr Ellery Ivan Apolinario (MD 2013, MPH 2014) represented the University at the 50th Association of Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC) Convention held February 1-3, 2016 at Novotel Hotel in Cubao, Quezon City and the Ateneo de Manila School of Medicine and Public Health Campus in Ortigas, Pasig City.

During the convention, AdZU-SOM grabbed the limelight with its documentary on the “New Breed of Doctors” during the presentation of the campuses by the participating medical schools. In 2015, the film won Best Documentary during the Film Festival of the Global Forum on Research and Innovation for Health held in Manila.

Another shining moment for AdZU’s delegation was a special feature on AdZU-SOM in the APMC commemorative book which was launched during the convention. The write-up traced the humble beginnings of the AdZU-SOM and highlighted its problem-, community-, and outcome-based medical education curriculum which has become known globally.

The APMC Convention, an annual gathering of faculty and students of the 49 medical schools in the country, celebrated the association’s Golden Year Anniversary this year with the theme, “Educating Physicians in the 21st Century”.
