In observance of World Art Day 2026, Ateneo de Zamboanga University celebrated creativity, culture, and community through “Vivencia: The AdZU Art-i-pelago – A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community Through Art,” held on April 15, 2026, at the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago. Bringing together students, faculty, and members of the wider community, the celebration highlighted art as a living expression of identity, heritage, and shared experience.

Anchored on the theme “Vivencia,” the event presented art as an embodied expression of personal narratives, cultural memory, and shared communal realities. Featured activities included talks by writer and translator Ms. Nathara Mirkusin Mugong, while hands-on workshops were facilitated by award-winning composer and songwriter Mr. Laurence Jay Camasura, religious sculptor Mr. Charlie Ibañez, and ArtCo Member Ms. Kian Cyrene Luna, whose insights enriched conversations on culture, heritage, and artistic practice. Complementing these were a gallery display of student outputs, as well as interactive engagement and reflection sessions.

The celebration also underscored the enduring relevance of local traditions and Zamboanga’s rich cultural heritage by merging cultural wisdom with contemporary artistic practice. Organized through the collaborative efforts of the Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts, the Ateneo Art Company–AdZU, and the Languages Department, the event reflected AdZU’s continued commitment to holistic education and formation through the arts. More than a showcase of talent, Vivencia served as a meaningful platform for fostering empathy, collaboration, and shared identity within the AdZU community.
