As a research and resource arm of the university, the Ateneo Zamboanga-Mindanao Institute (AZMI) aims to stimulate inquiries into, sustain conversations about, and deepen knowledges of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu Archipelago, and Mindanao within the coordinates of Southeast Asia and their trans-national and inter-regional affinities.

What we do

A. Collections Development and Management

We commit to acquiring, curating, digitizing, and storing collections on priority areas for the development of multiple, complementing, and parallel streams of knowledge on Zamboanga-Mindanao.

B. Programs, Partnerships, and Instruction-Support

We strive to promote initiatives and projects that engage cultural communities towards meaningful expression and recognition; collaborate and cultivate polyvocal and emic-etic inquiry on Zamboanga-Mindanao; and inform and complement university instruction on Zamboanga-Mindanao culture and history towards more inquiry-based learning models.

C. Knowledge Production and Publishing

We seek to stimulate, sustain, and deepen transdisciplinary and trans-local inquiry on Zamboanga Mindanao in Southeast Asia and beyond through academic and artistic production; to nurture linkages and resonances with entities of similar interest in these concentric circles.
