The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) sponsored the Education Stakeholders’ Forum on Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education on February 4, 2011 at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall, Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Teachers, scholars, school heads, and agencies attended the said forum, linking institutions for the promotion of MLE in the region.
In commemoration of the International Mother Language Day on February 21 and in support of multilingual education, SLA co-organized this event with the 170+ Talaytayan MLE, aiming to strengthen advocacy in support of Multilingual Education (MLE) and to determine possibilities for further MLE mobilization in the region.
The main speaker was Dr. Ricardo Ma. Duran Nolasco of UP Department of Linguistics and president of the 170+ Talaytayan MLE, the lead advocate of MLE. Others include speakers from the UP College of Education, Translators Association of the Philippines, Department of Education, Save the Children, as well as local academics to present initiatives in L1 promotion, instruction and research in Western Mindanao.
