MIPES celebrate Dia de Subanon in partnership with AdZU CCES
The Center for Community Extension Services (CCES) and the Monte Central Indigenous Peoples’ Elementary School (MIPES) facilitated the celebration of Gondow nog Subanon (Dia de Subanon) on October 29, 2014 at the Sitio Monte Central, Brgy. Patalon Zamboanga City.
The objective of this celebration is to promote the rich culture and traditions of the Subanon people. It also aims to showcase the talents of proud Subanon children and adults. The program proper included a series of cultural presentations such as Gigal Kawing (wedding dance), Pogposolamat (thanksgiving dance), Bobat Sinubanon (indigenous song/music), Kobiyanan nog Subanon (Subanon History), Bata nog Bulilabon (Story-telling for Children), and Mog Putukan Kita (riddle type indigenous game).
Those present during the celebration included the Department of Education represented by Mr. Eduardo Ibanez, Barangay council of Patalon represented by Hon. Aripin Arasain, Three (3) IPS representatives represented by Mr. Martin Maguilla, AdZU representatives Mr. Perry Dela Cruz and Ms. Marilou Floriza, parents and community leaders.
The IP Festival is celebrated every year since the commencement of the School for Indigenous People at Monte Central in school year 2011-2012. It is now named Monte Central Indigenous Peoples’ Elementary School (MIPES). The community agreed to celebrate the Gondow nog Subanon every last Wednesday of the National IP Month.
