CHED-HERRC Holds National Research Conference in Davao City

A National Research Conference was held in Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City on August 6-8, 2014. This conference was initiated by eighteen (18) Higher Education Regional Research Centers (HERRCs) from all over the country. The Ateneo de Zambaonga University is one of the members, represented by Dr. Teresita G. Montaño as ADZU-HERRC Director. The conference was sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education to provide a venue for all completed CHED-HERRC funded researches to be presented to the academic community and other stakeholders.

During the conference ADZU presented three papers as the output of the first phase of the research “Mapping Vulnerable Sectors in the Coastal Areas of Zamboanga City”. The presenters were Ms Aurora C. Gonzales (Understanding Social Vulnerability of the Social Communities of Zamboanga City), Ms Regina P. Junio (Employability, Livelihood Diversity and Identity: Factors affecting Social Communities’ Vulnerability) and Mr Louie Virgil A. Gallardo ( GIS based vulnerability map of the coastal areas of Zamboanga City).

ADZU’s outputs as a Program Cluster Implementer and partner with the Zonal Research Center of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) were also presented. The poster presentations were researches on Peace and Development lead by Dr. Rebecca B. Felonia of WMSU (Vulnerable Sector Organizations (VSOS) Peace interventions: The Case of Mindanao) and Aurora C. Gonzales of ADZU (Documenting Peace Education Programs of Higher Education Institutions in the Conflict Areas of Mindanao). Both researches were multi-sectoral, where researchers from other tertiary institutions in Mindanao also participated.

About 400 participants were present and there were four plenary speakers, ninety eight (98) oral presentations in four parallel sessions, and more than sixty (60) poster presentations.
