The Ateneo Research Center (ARC) is working to establish a nationally recognized and accredited university Ethics Review Committee (ERC).
Towards this goal, ARC conducted the seminar-workshop Writing Standard Operating Procedures for AdZU ERC. The workshop was held at Garden Orchid Hotel from January 28 to 30t 2015.
ARC director Teresita G. Montaño, PhD said that the primary goals of the workshop were to finalize the composition of the AdZU ERC and the drafting of SOP documents to guide the university ERC’s operations. She added that these documents are required for the registration and accreditation of the university ERC at the national level.
Ethics review of research proposals is increasingly becoming a standard procedure in research here and abroad, across academic disciplines. Often, research journals will only publish researches that have an ethics clearance from recognized committees. Organizers of research conferences require the same of their presentors.
Montaño said that for this reason, it is important that ADZU build its own ERC.
The participants of the workshop were faculty members who have basic and advanced training in research ethics given by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), the national governing body on research ethics.
The members elected to compose the AdZU ERC were Servando Halili, PhD, Maynard Bagtasos, Ma. Lourdes Follero, Karen Abulencia, Jocelyn Partosa, PhD, Jayson Sabdillon, Grace Ann Lagura, John Mayo Enriquez, Gerald James Ebal, Katherine Sinsuan, and Robert Mayonila.
This list will be endorsed to the university president for approval and official appointment.
AdZU President Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ and ZCHRD (DOST 9) ERC member Maisie Faith Dagapioso also spoke during the workshop.
Aleli Ramillano, Precious Opinion, Marilyn Miguel, and Jude Gallardo composed the rest of the ARC team that organized the workshop.
