AdZU Social Development Offices Launches “Glimpses of Zamboanga”

On October 12, 2012, the Social Development Office of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University presented more than 200 photos showing glimpses of the city. A total of 87 participants competed in this Photo Festival. There were three different categories for this event – DSLR, point & shoot, and mobile phone.

The winners of the competition are the following:

DSLR : Ranrey Reambonanza (1st place)

Jacques Corral (2nd place)

Michelle dela Torre (3rd place)

Point and shoot : Fadila Tingkasan (1st place)

Orline G Nercuit (2nd place)

Fatima Shahanie Uddin (3rd place)

Mobile phone : Ethen Dwight S Torres

The reflective thoughts of Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ, Assistant to the President for Social Development, aptly captured the basic objective of this event:“How would you like Zamboanga to be remembered for posterity? What if, we take photographs of all the facets of Zamboanga City in one day?

Yes, an album of our beloved Ciudad de Zamboanga na un dia—from sunrise to sunset, from the city center to its hillsides and its coastlines—including both special events and ordinary ways of life! The result could be a precious gallery of professional and amateur shots that will forever be a record of how Zamboanga and its people look on this most photographed day —October 12, 2012, Fiesta de la Virgen del Pilar.”

This event was a partnership among the Social Development Units, College of Science & Information Technology (CSIT), and the Gallery of the Peninsula & Archipelago (GPA).

The Photo Festival exhibit at the Gallery of the Peninsula & Archipelago will run until November 15, 2012. As the university celebrates its centennial jubilee, this Photo Festival event is a simple gesture of gratitude to the city of Zamboanga.
