AdZU Holds 9th SHS Commencement Exercises, Honors Class of 2026

“You will be remembered not only for what you achieve but for who you walk with and who you help become better.”

Speaker, 9th Senior High School Commencement Exercises

Marking the culmination of years of academic formation and spiritual growth, Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) honored 823 Senior High School students during its 9th Commencement Exercises.

Leading the graduating class, valedictorian Naithan P Bundajon of the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand called on his fellow graduates to carry forward the values that have shaped their Atenean journey. Reflecting on their shared experience, he reminded his batchmates to remain grounded in purpose and service: “As we are about to leave the little nest that we have here in Ateneo, may we always, in all the ways possible, serve for the love of God and country… may we always have purpose and love in what we do.”

Class salutatorian Ali King A Umabong of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand, meanwhile, encouraged his peers to move beyond plans and take meaningful action. He challenged the class to pursue their aspirations with courage: “Do not let those plans remain as dusty drawings on a shelf—go out and live those dreams, create memories, and carry them alongside the lessons and bonds that made this journey meaningful.”

Commencement speaker Fr Antonio “Tony” M Basilio SJ PhD emphasized that true success is not measured solely by individual achievement, but by the impact one makes in the lives of others. He urged the graduates to walk with purpose, lift others, and embrace companionship in mission—highlighting that excellence is ultimately strengthened by community and collaboration.

The ceremony concluded with a blessing from University President Fr Ernald M Andal SJ, who invoked God’s guidance upon the graduates, praying that they remain humble and steadfast in lives rooted in generosity, truth, and service.

The event underscored the spirit of compañerismo that defines the AdZU Senior High School community. As these Blue Eagles step into the future, they carry with them not only academic knowledge but also the Ignatian values that call them to transform society. Formed through rigorous academics, leadership development, and spiritual formation, the Class of 2026 now embarks on new paths equipped to serve with purpose, compassion, and resilience.
