The Ateneo de Zamboanga University through its Center for Community Extension Services (CCES) steered the ceremonial turn-over of support and MOA signing with the Subanen Tribe on August 3, 2023 at AdZU Salvador Campus.
DOST Regional Office IX , represented by Ms Jali J Bandiola of the Zamboanga City office, handed over a grant amounting to P1,589,651.52 to support the project dubbed “Empowering Communities, Transforming Society with the Subanon Indigenous People”. Its aim is to provide technology and innovations to the community, specifically the Subanon Self-help Group of Women engaged in ginger tea production that will lead to sustainable economic growth.
Adhering to RA 8371 or the IPRA Law of 1997, AdZU entered into a MOA signing with the Subanon Council of Leaders to solidify their support in this endeavor and for the Subanon Indigenous Cultural Communities to show their sincere commitment and interest to the said project.
As Mr Mario Rodriguez, the Assistant to the President for Social Development pointed out in his message during the event, “This is the beginning for us coming together for sustainable development.”
The event was graced by different government agencies which includes DOLE, TESDA, DTI, OCA, DepEd, and NCIP, whom CCES and the Subanon ICC will be collaborating in the operation of the program.
