ADZU CCES leads Oath Taking of Subanon Leaders; Empowers IP Communities

As a continuing engagement to empower the Subanon Indigenous Peoples, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University through the Center for Community Extension Services (AdZU–CCES) continues to partner with IP communities to organize and capacitate the leaders who are committed to improving IP communities in accordance with their culture and tradition.

In simple ceremonies, 28 newly-elected Subanon leaders from Barangays Patalon, Labuan and Limpapa took their oath of office last February 20, 2019 in Limpapa. The elected leaders, from Upper Patalon Subanon Association, Campo Uno Indigenous Peoples Organization, Luuk Indigenous Peoples Organization, and Latap-Mosalag Indigenous Peoples Organization under the supervision of Labuan, Patalon, Limpapa Subanon Indigenous Cultural Communities (LPLSICC) federation will guarantee implementation of the different programs and engagements in their respective sitios and will ensure that smooth and open communication is established among indigenous peoples.

Presiding the oath-taking was Engr George T Jocutan, Officer-In-Charge for National Commission on Indigenous Peoples-Zamboanga City. Also present during the event were MsLoreta R Sta Teresa, Director of Ateneo de Zamboanga University Center for Community Extension Services; Mr Pablo Rey Pio Fuentes, Program Manager-PEACEPATHS Program of Assisi Development Foundation, Inc.; Barangay Limpapa Chairwoman Halima J Apalad; and MrLeo S Gumandao, LPLSICC President.

In his speech, Gumandao thanked the Ateneo and the other partner institutions for giving IP communities sustainable projects that help in the preservation of the Subanon culture and heritage.
