RE: NEW MEMBERS OF THE ADZU BOARD OF TRUSTEES

I am happy to inform the community of the election to the AdZU Board of Trustees of FR MARS P TAN SJ, FR ANTONIO M DE CASTRO SJ and ENGR IBRAHIM M NUÑO during the Corporation/BOT meeting on Saturday 22 February 2020.

Fr MarsTanis the President-elect of Xavier University (XU)- Ateneo de Cagayan. He has PhD in Environmental Science (University of Notre Dame Australia, Perth WA) and a master’s degree in Environmental Science (University of the Philippines, Diliman, QC). He has been the director of the McKeough Marine Center and XU Marine Station since 2010. He is active in environmental research having served as Project Leader for the following (among others): Mangrove Mapping in Macajalar Bay; Ecological Assessment of Minergy Power Plant, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental; and, Coral Resource Assessment and Marine Debris Audit, Barangays Bayabas, Macabalan, and Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. He serves in the Board of the following: XU, Ateneo de Davao University, Child Fund Philippines, Institute of Social Order, Manila Observatory, and Xavier Science Foundation.
Fr Tony De Castro is an Associate Professor of Church
History and Systematic Theology at the Ateneo de Manila University. He earned his doctorate and licentiate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome) and a bachelor’s degree and a licentiate in Sacred Theology from Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan. He also holds a master’s degree in Theology (Ateneo de Manila University). He is a member of the Editorial Board, Ateneo de Manila University Press and was Editor-in-Chief (2007-2009) of LANDAS, Journal of Loyola School of Theology, which is published by the Ateneo de Manila University. He has served in the board of the following: Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, ERDA Technical School, and Environmental Science for Social Change (ESSC).
Engr Bong Nuño is the President & Managing Director of Metro Stonerich Corporation. He is an AdZU alumnus (HS 1977, GS 1973) and has a degree in Civil Engineering from Adamson University (1981). He is a civil engineer with an experience that spans more than 30 years here and abroad and is one of the industry leaders in his field. He serves as a trustee of the Adamson University and is the team manager of its Basketball and Volleyball teams. He is a member of the Ateneo de Zamboanga Metro Manila Alumni Association (ADZUMMAA) and the Adamson University Industry Advisory Board. He has been president of the HJ. Jainuddin/ Stonerich Foundation since 2000, and vice president of the La Hermandad Zambongueña Foundation, Inc, since 2009. His philanthropic contributions include building churches and places of worship not only for the Islamic faithful but also for those of other religious denominations.
I thank Fr Mars, Fr Tony, and Engr Bong Nuño for their generosity in sharing their time and leadership in the service of the mission of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
I also take this opportunity to thank Fr Roberto C Yap SJ who served in the Board for three terms (nine years), Dr Fortunato L Cristobal (twelve years), and Fr Richard V Ella SJ (three years), whose leadership and participation in the Board these past many years helped significantly in moving the University forward in its mission.
