Ateneo Research Center and ZPHERA
hold ARC
The Ateneo Research Center (ARC), in collaboration with
the Zamboanga Peninsula Higher Education Research Association (ZPHERA),
successfully conducted the 2-day ARC Research Forum 2014. The forum featured
research from AdZU faculty members as well as research completed by faculty
members from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) and Jose Rizal Memorial
State University (JRMSU). Other participating colleges/universities included
J.H. Cerilles State College – Canuto Campus, Lakewood, Saint Columban College
(Pagadian City), and Basilan State College.
The papers presented in the first plenary sessions were Assessing
the CMNC-Trained Midwives’ Compliance to the Standards of Active Management of
the Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL) and Essential Newborn Care (ENC) in the
Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) by Servando Halili, PhD (AdZU);
Biodiversity of Bongao Peak, Tawi-Tawi: Its Status and Conservation Management
Strategies by Almudi G. Lukman (WMSU); and Adult Learning and Literacy
Study (ALS) – A Mother Tongue Community Support for Special Groups by Chona
Q. Sarmiento, PhD (WMSU).
The papers featured
in the next two plenary sessions were Listening To Our Teachers: An
Exploratory Study of the Views, Attitudes and Practices of Faculty, Staff and
Parents of Students of Catholic High Schools on Reproductive Health,
Responsible Parenthood and Sexuality Education by Liezl De Sosa Camacho
(AdZU) and Rosalyn Romo Echem (WMSU); Conservation and Ecotourism
Development in Great Sta. Cruz Island by Jeffrey O. Jalani (ADZU-High
School); Spirituality of the Fort Pilar Pilgrims by Robert V.
Panaguiton, PhD (AdZU); and Distribution and Abundance of Sea Snakes in the
Visayas and Mindanao, Philippines by Ma. Rio Abdon Naguit, PhD (JRMSU).
Regina Junio (AdZU) also presented the results of the CHED-sponsored study Mapping
Vulnerable Sectors in the Coastal Areas of Zamboanga City while Mario
Rodriguez (AdZU) shared to the participants an on-going project being engaged
in by AdZU in partnership with University of the Philippines Training Center
for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (UP-TCAGP) at UP Diliman called the
Disaster Risk Exposure for Mitigation using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)
technology or the DREAM LiDAR program.
The forum also
included parallel sessions where more than 15 other papers were presented.
Most of the papers presented have either been published
in reputable national and/or international journals or are in the process of
publication.
