The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Concert Band opens a two-day concert in Cagayan de Oro with a pair of gigs at the Xavier University today , November 24th.
The Cagayan de Oro concerts dubbed “ Stint” is a follow up to its highly successful concert in Ateneo de Davao.
Under the baton of band master Apolonio ‘Poli’ Enriquez the 64-man band will do a 3 pm matinee show to be followed by the gala show at 7pm
This will be followed by another performance at the Rodelsa Hall of the Liceo de Cagayan Univerrsity.
The series of concerts is in celebration of the Sesquicentennial, of the return of the Jesuits to the Philippines and Ateneo de Zamboanga’s launch of its centennial anniversary on 2012.
Heading the delegation to Cagayan de Oro is Francis Jay Lllenado of the ADZU Office of Student Relations and Ms Joji Turno is show director.
Enriquez said that for the Cagayan de Oro concerts, the band will play classical pieces, popular movie themes, Original Filipino music , music of the big band era and even rock songs intended for the younger set.
Prices are at popular rates in the twin Xavier shows, while the liceo concert will cost patrons P100 pesos for Ateneans and alumni, and P200 for non-Ateneans.
The band, in its tour also aims to raise funds to upgrade its ageing musical instruments.
Sources said Cebu concert is in the works for the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Concert band by early next year.
ADZU President Fr. Antonio Moreno, a Cagay Anon himself and chief backer of the band is expected to be in the crowds today and at Liceo.
