ACLG gives Bridging Leadership Training in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur

It is in the ACLG’s mission to advance value-based capacity building amongst local government leaders, civil servants, and civil society organizations within the Zamboanga Peninsula. The office has already conducted a series of leadership and governance trainings in the municipal and barangay level. Apart from the Barangay Health Leadership and Management Workshop (BHLMW) which was recently conducted in the municipality of Siocon, the ACLG also capacitates local leaders using the Bridging Leadership (BL) framework to address social inequities.

The Bridging Leadership framework is a leadership approach where the leader goes through a process of owning the identified societal divide, engaging stakeholders to co-own the problem, and co-creating together an innovative solution to address the issue. On February 10-12, 2014, the ACLG was invited by Hon. Mayor Danilo Dalid of the municipality of Tigbao to give a leadership training to equip the municipality’s key personnel, Sangguniang Bayan, and newly elected barangay captains with BL leadership competencies. A total of 46 participants who attended the training. The group went through a series of activities which were key components in enhancing leadership roles when faced with difficult situations.

The training was culminated with each group of leaders (Municipal Officers, Sangguniang Bayan, and Barangay Captains) bringing with them their action plan to resolve the identified municipal issues. Hon. Danilo Dalid was very supportive of the proposals of his municipal leaders and he was delighted with the output of the workshop. Mayor Dalid believes that Tigbao, being a 4th class municipality, has social issues that are too complex to be resolved by one leader alone. He personally initiated the BL training in his municipality to have his leaders co-own the municipal challenges that they are facing. He encouraged his leaders to be more creative in planning out ways and strategies to address the societal issues in their communities.

Hon. Danilo Dalid is an alumna of the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program to attain the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) under the Zuellig Family Foundation. Ms. Aurora Gonzales, the director of ACLG, was his coach in implementing the crafted plans from the training.
