Participatory Community Public Safety Planning at Barangay Recodo

The Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance (ACLG) together, with partner agencies USAID-ENGAGE, SACSI Office, MINERISK and ANTI-KIDNAPPING GROUP, conducted the third run of the Participatory Community Public Safety Planning (PCPSP) at Barangay Recodo Zamboanga City on March 19 and 20, 2015. The participants of the two (2) day workshop was composed of sub-groups coming from different sectors and barangay based-institutions.

The participants of the first day were members of associations representing teachers, women, students, senior citizens, local fishermen, vendors, community leaders, and other civil society organizations. They were guided in the identification of potential divides and challenges in their communities using the Problem Tree Analysis method. On the second day, the participants were representatives from the Barangay Council, Lupon Tagapamayapa, Tanod, and Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN). Rapid Organizational Analysis was utilized to evaluate the institutional policies, operation of their mandates, and competencies of their members. The team also discussed recommendations for responding to the identified challenges. Recodo Barangay Chairman Honorable Wahab Ibba was also present during the workshop.

The output of the 2-day planning activity will be deliberated and presented to the Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC) of Recodo to further finalize the output of the plan. It will also be presented to the barangay general assembly for inclusion to the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) of the public safety programs mandated by the City Government of Zamboanga.
