NADIA: Un Musical Chavacano to Premiere on November 20

The Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts through Teatro Ateneo de Zamboanga, in its pursuit to provide ADZU and the city with excellent artistic and cultural productions, proudly presents its first major production for the Academic Year 2014-2015.

NADIA: Un Musical Chavacano is a musical adaptation of the children’s book “Nadia and the Blue Stars” by Francesca Nicole Chan Torres published by CANVAS.PH. It presents to us the story of a young girl named Nadia, who lives in a village filled with flowers – most special of all are the blue flowers that cover the large expanse of land. War arrives and burns all the flowers in Nadia’s village. Wanting her flowers to grow back, Nadia is forced to face threats or risks losing the only place she calls home. How will everyone survive? How will everyone recover? The young Nadia will show her community how. The musical play was created to commemorate the 2013 Zamboanga Siege.

This musical adaptation is written and directed by Zamboangueño theatre director Kiko Miranda with original Chavacano compositions by Zamboangueña singer-songwriter Jana Jumalon – Alano. The production will also feature the stage design by Zamboangueña artist Amihan Jumalon, Choreography by Karl Alexis Jingco and Musical Direction by JP Braulio. The production will feature the members and collaborators of Teatro Ateneo de Zamboanga, the resident theatre organization of ACCA. Talents and collaborators from all-over Zamboanga City will also be part of the musical play to share onstage the magic and heart of NADIA.

The world premiere of NADIA will be on November 20, 2014 (Thursday) and will run until November 23, 2014 (Sunday), 7:00PM at the ADZU Brebuef Gymnasium. Regular tickets are priced at Php100. Senior Citizens and students are entitled to a 40% discount on ticket price. FREE COPIES of the children’s book “Nadia and the Blue Stars” will be distributed at the gate entrance during open house. ALL PROCEEDS OF THE PRODUCTION WILL GO TO THE ADZU RECOVERY AND ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

The Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts aims to revive the culture of performance and arts in Zamboanga City by organizing cultural and artistic programs and making them part of the curriculum enrichment, formation framework, and spiritual-social outreach of the center to its constituents and the community. May this be the start towards a more sustainable practice of performance and the arts for the social and spiritual formation of every Zamboangueno.
