MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY
RE: KILLING OF DR ARTURO “ARCHIE” F EUSTAQUIO III
With deepest sympathy, I wish to express my condolences to the relatives and friends of Dr Arturo “Archie” F Eustaquio III and to the academic community of Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ). Dr Eustaquio, UZ President and Chair of the Board, was killed yesterday shortly after 1.00 PM by unidentified gunmen near his residence in Sta Maria, Zamboanga City. He was buried this morning.
Last year, he offered to donate law books for our College of Law. In recent past, both of us made good strides to bridge the relationship between AdZU and UZ.
He was definitely a key leader in education in our region. During his leadership, the Zamboanga Arturo Eustaquio Colleges (ZAEC), founded by his father, rose to prominence by becoming one of the two private universities in Region 9.
I condemn his killing. I hope and pray that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to the bar of justice.
May he rest in peace.
