MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY

RE: FR JOSE T BACATAN SJ LIBRARY

In the AdZU Board of Trustees meeting on 25 August 2012, the members unanimously decided upon a recommendation that the university library be named in honor of Fr Jose T Bacatan SJ.  This is an effort to acknowledge with deep gratitude Fr Bacatan’s work as the Library Administrator for ten years (1975 – 1985).  When he became the Dean of the Colleges in 1985, he continued to support and upgrade the collection of our library.  He was instrumental in the creation of the Audiovisual Center, now a component of the library.   He became President of the Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Association (ALBASA) and Chairman of the Philippine Library Materials Project (PLMP) Board.  AdZU is a founding member of ALBASA and PMLP.  Both acquired millions of (donated and purchased) books from the US and other countries for distribution to school libraries (including AdZU) in the Philippines.

In due time, the naming ceremonies will be scheduled.  I hope our academic community will continue to bring to life such an important institutional memory of the work of Fr Bacatan in many years to come.

Congratulations Fr Bacatan!
