Former Ateneo principals receive leadership awards

A veteran Jesuit educator and a former high school principal of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) were bestowed honors by the Jesuit Basic Education Commission (JBEC) on July 13 at the Ateneo de Manila University Covered Courts.

The award ceremony was part of the Sesquicentennial celebrations of the Philippine Society of Jesus.

Former Grade School Principal Fr. Florencio Cuerquis, SJ and former High School Principal Oscar Carzada where awarded the Sinag ng Karunungan Leadership Recognition Award for their invaluable services in the teaching profession.

Fr. Cuerquis and Carzada were among fifteen men and women, including 10 Jesuit priests, who were feted during the awards program where Fr. Adolfo Nicholas, Superior General of the Jesuit Congregation, was guest of honor.

Fr. Cuerquis served in various capacities in different parts of the country. Until last year, he was principal of the grade school. He is currently Grade school chaplain.

Carzada was high school principal for 18 years. He is currently program coordinator of the university’s Educational Leadership Development Program.
