Film Development Council of the Philippines Conduct Workshop in Ateneo

Zamboanga film makers are invited to Sineng Pambansa: Zamboanga Film Festival Workshop, on February 25, 2011 at Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

The event is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the City Government of Zamboanga, and the Mass Communication Department of ADZU. It is part of the Dia De Zamboanga Film Festival.

The resource persons are acclaimed directors and producers Margie Templo and Ato Bautista. Registration is free. The first session, by Templo, will be on “Finding a Producer for Your Independent Film” while Bautista’s lecture will be on the Difference Between Mainstream and Independent Films.

Templo, producer of “Kano” and the award-winning short film “Mansyon” (The Mansion), is a co-founder and resident producer and director of Arkeofilms. It is a high- caliber creative team seen as the frontrunner of the independent film movement in the country. Her movie, “Kano: An American and His Harem”, produced together with Monster Jimenez, has gained the top prize in the First Appearance Competition at the 2010 International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam.

International critics mark Baustista as “master of modern macabre” with his second film dubbed as “Blackout”. The film received positive remarks for its sense of originality and use of eminent cinematic techniques. His highly anticipated third full length feature film dubbed as “Carnivore”, a socio-dram thriller, was featured at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival and he bought home the Best Director title. Bautista will share insights on the subject, The Difference Between Independent and Mainstream Cinemas.

This event is also in line with Zamboanga Film Festival even, incommemoration of Dia de Zamboanga, and the nationwide celebration of Sineng Pambansa where various Filipino films will be shown at Mindpro Cinemas from February 23-25.
