English Speech Festival 2011

The English Department of Ateneo de Zamboanga University High School once again organized the yearly English Speech Festival last September 29, 2011, Thursday at the High School Lobby, WHK Campus of Barangay Tumaga with the theme “Literacy: The Key to lasting Peace and engaged Citizenship.” Chosen first year and second year high school students participated in Bracket A of Extemporaneous Speaking while third year and fourth year high school students competed in Bracket B. The Bracket A of the Elocution competition was contended by second year high school students as third year and fourth year high school students competed in Bracket B. First year high school students participated in the Declamation contest.
Approximately 8:00 in the morning the said occasion commenced with the Doxology rendered by the Youth Christian Life Community followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Ms. Janet A. Fernandez, the school’s principal delivered the Opening Remarks to everyone. The contest proper immediately began after Ms. Michelle Jane D. Rosello and Mr. Marion B. Guerero introduced the contestants and the panel of the Board of Judges.

Declamation (First Year Level)
1st Place – Meela Rixsa A. Alfad of I – St. Kostka
2nd Place – Victoria Ann B. Guingona of I – St. Chabanel
3rd Place – Stanley Peter S. Belcina of I – St. Daniel
Elocution (Bracket A – Second Year Level)
1st Place – Farrah Camille E. Amik of II – St. Claver
Elocution (Bracket B – Third Year and Fourth Year Levels)
1st Place – Sxarina Gabriela L. Rellosa of III – St. Xavier
2nd Place – Mitzi M. Marquez of IV – St. Brebeuf
3rd Place – Malaica J. Lipaygo of III – St. Pignatelli
Extemporaneous Speaking (Bracket A – First and Second Year Levels)
1st Place – Debre Ann M. Ponce of II – St. Arrowsmith
2nd Place – Caryl Andrea A. Tinae of II – St. Arrowsmith
3rd Place – Meela Rixsa A. Alfad of I – St. Kostka
Extemporaneous (Bracket B – Third and Fourth Year Levels)
1st Place – Sanjeev A. Parmanand of IV – St. Brebeuf
2nd Place – Christian Vince B. Wee of III – St. Xavier
3rd Place – Salina Biene B. Teo of III – St, Lewis
The English Department Chairperson of Ateneo de Zamboanga University High School, Mrs. Evelyn Q. Bugayong gave her closing remarks for the English Speech Festival 2011 to end. The Distribution of Certificates to the participants was given the next day, September 30, 2011, Friday during the assembly.
