College Faculty Club ends summer happy with their various outreach activities

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Faculty Club (CFC) had a full schedule of community outreach activities this summer. The latest such activity was the Free Haircut and Feeding for Sucabon Children on May 23, 2015.

Members of the CFC organized the event together with support from the ADZU Office of the Academic Vice President and Sucabon barangay officials.

CFC president Prof. Journal Pangan said that 68 children were given free haircuts and 98 children were fed with a simple meal.  The organization timed the free haircut event with the opening of classes on June 8, 2015. The activity helped parents and guardians of children save money they would have spent at the barber or parlor to get school-sanctioned haircuts, especially for male students.

Sucabon is an urban barangay near to the main campus of ADZU.

Another activity of the CFC was the “Free Medical Check Up, Tuli and Free Feeding” held at the town hall and health center of Barangay Cacao on May 14, 2015.

Co-organizers of the event were the ADZU Center for Community Extension Services (CCES), the Office of the Academic Vice President,  College of Nursing, the Zamboanga City Medical Society, officials and residents of Barangay Cacao, and personnel and volunteers of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

The beneficiaries of the said event were senior citizens and children from Barangay Cacao. The patients were given free medical checkup, free circumcision, free medicines and vitamins. A total of 155 patients benefited from the medical mission, while over 100 children were given free meals.

Pangan said he is grateful to specific persons for the success of the activity in Cacao: Fr. Patrick Nogoy SJ, CCES director Loretta Sta. Teresa, Analie Mitra, Dr. Irene Anacan, Barangay Cacao Chairman Noel Dela Cruz, Fr. Sergio dela Noche, and Francis Arroyo.
