Ateneo “Gives Love on Christmas Day”
In the spirit of giving during the Christmas season, the Ateneo
de Zamboanga University, through its time-honored Love Drive campaign, distributed
gifts packs in various communities, this city from December 11-16, 2016.
With the theme, “Magmahal at Magpasaya ngayong Pasko,” the Love
Drive is the AdZU community’s way of celebrating Christmas by showing love and
spreading joy to its partner communities, in the spirit of “love, generosity, acceptance and
equality”.
For the year 2016, Campus Ministry Office (CMO) Director Joy
Tugade reported that the Love Drive served more than a thousand families from
barangays with whom the university has partnered in various programs during the
past years. They include Monte Central, Patalon; Labuan, Campo Uno; Kapuk,
Lamisahan; Fishermen Village, Manicahan; Luuk, Limpapa; Simariki Island and
Masepla Transitory sites.
A collaborative effort of college students, faculty, staff and
the central services unit of the university, the Love Drive is spearheaded by
the CMO, in coordination with the Center for Community Extension Services.
This year’s Love Drive campaign was launched last September 07,
2016. Packing of goods which included basic food items such as rice, sugar,
canned goods, noodles and milk, was held December 10, 2016 at the Multi-Purpose
Covered Court, participated in by the Alliance of Religious Organization (ARO),
student volunteers and the Physical Plant Office (PPO) personnel.
Other recipients of this year’s Love Drive included families
affected by the December 25 fire in Camino Nuevo.
