ARC presents research on Zamboanga economy after 2013 siege

The Ateneo Research Center (ARC) hosted a research presentation for stakeholders featuring the recently completed work of Cindy Anne J. Quaile entitled Assessing Zamboanga City’s Economy in View of the September 2013 Incursion. The presentation was conducted at the LRC Conference Room located in the Fr. Eusebio Salvador, SJ campus of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University on July 23, 2015.

Ms Quaile’s research examined the implications of the September 2013 armed conflict between the Philippine government and a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front on the economy of Zamboanga City. The presentation highlighted data that indicated the effect of the 2013 Incursion on the city’s financial, transport, and service sectors as well as on the sector on agriculture and the local sardine industry.

The event was organized so that results of the research could be disseminated first to relevant stakeholders of Zamboanga City before the general public and to allow the same stakeholders to respond to the results of the assessment.

Present in the event were Engr. Luis Despalo of the City Engineer’s Office of Zamboanga City and Conrad Sontillano of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO-ZC). Also present were representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Zamboanga Office, officials from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA),  members of the local banking association, and AdZU faculty and staff.

Ms Quaile is a faculty member of the School of Liberal Arts, where she teaches Economics and Research.
