AdZU supports CON alumna-widow of slain human rights lawyer

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University is extending its support and sympathy to Clarisa Ramos, a graduate of AdZU’s BS Nursing program Class 1993, the widow of murdered human rights lawyer, Atty Benjamin Ramos.

Atty Ben Ramos was gunned to death last November 6, 2018 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental by unidentified men. The late Atty Ramos was known to be an ally of peasants and farm workers oppressed by anti-people laws, policies, and programs.

“Ben dedicated his pro bono law practice to representing those who had no one to turn to for legal assistance – the landless and oppressed farmers, environmentalists, activists, political prisoners, and mass organizations in Negros Island…,” Clarissa said, in describing the work of her husband.

Clarissa, who joined the Jesuit Volunteers of the Philippines (JVP) after graduation, was assigned to the Diocese of Kabankalan and Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Development Group in Negros Occidental. After her JVP term, she dedicated her life to raising a family and assisting her husband in his work in community organizing.

In solidarity, let us pray for the repose of Atty Ben Ramos’ soul.
