ADZU-SOM Medical Student wins Global Alliance for Rabies Control Contest

Michael Angelo H. Filoteo, a fourth year medical student of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University-School of Medicine (ADZU-SOM) has been selected as one of the 6 national winners in the recent contest on “One Health Challenge of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control – Philippines” for his community project entitled “Aso Ko, Mahal Ko, Purok to Purok Dog Vaccination 2013”. This contest is a nation-wide competition for medical and veterinary students. It hopes to promote collaboration and partnership between the medical and veterinary health sectors on rabies education, prevention and control.

Mr. Filoteo’s project was recognized for its accomplished community-based, comprehensive, and innovative interventions for rabies prevention and control in his assigned community. He will receive a Php 10,000.00 reward and a Certificate of Recognition which will be awarded on March 27, 2014 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños Laguna. His project will also be publicised in the Global Alliance for Rabies Control Website and will be one of the featured activities for the World Rabies Day. Awarding will be during the National Rabies Awareness month this March in Manila.
