ACES Corner | ALeRTO Technology Receives National Innovation Award for Public Impact

Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) marks another milestone as the Automated Water-Level and Rain Monitoring Using Near Real-Time Observation (ALeRTO) technology was once again recognized with the Public Impact Research Intervention Innovation Award. This prestigious recognition underscores the successful transformation of academic research into an innovative solution with tangible benefits for society.

Developed under the GeoSAFER Mindanao initiative, ALeRTO stands out for its seamless transition from concept to practical application, directly supporting disaster risk reduction. The technology has been widely adopted to enhance community preparedness and evidence-based policymaking.

The award was conferred during the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Department of Science and Technology—Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), held on June 27, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel, Newport World Resorts, Pasay City. With the theme “15 Years of Innovation: Breaking Boundaries in Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology,” the event honored projects that exemplify research-to-impact excellence — solutions that directly improve lives, safety, and disaster preparedness.

The ALeRTO award was received by Mr. Mario S. Rodriguez, Project Leader, along with team members Mr. Emir V. Epino and Engr. Raymond T. Ong. The team also acknowledges the significant contributions of co-developers Ms. Julemer Ann G. Aying and Engr. Glenn Leandri Brylle L. Lamparas.

The ALeRTO team extends its heartfelt gratitude to DOST-PCIEERD for its unwavering support and funding during the implementation of the project, under the larger umbrella of GEO-SAFER MINDANAO: Geo-Informatics for the Systematic Assessment of Flood Effects and Risks Toward a Resilient Mindanao. This recognition not only honors the innovation itself but also reaffirms Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s commitment to research that serves communities and advances sustainable development.
