MR JOLITO DUMADAG
BS Computer Science Batch 2001

Hi. My name is Jolito Dumadag and I graduated from Ateneo de
Zamboanga in 2001 with a degree in Computer Science. I
currently live in Florida with my beautiful wife and 4 smart and
amazing kids. I moved to the United States in 2004 to join an IT
consulting firm based in Chicago and became a US citizen 9 years
later.
I started working as an IT developer and programmer which as
many of you probably know is really a starting position in
technology and I worked hard from there. Today, I am an IT
Delivery Manager in a very large and global investment bank in
the world working with directors and senior VPs around the world
to build and develop very high-end applications. I love my job. I
love what I do and I am very happy with my accomplishments.

It is hard to believe that it has been more than 20 years since I graduated from Ateneo de Zamboanga. But I can tell you that the memories are still very fresh to me. And I can tell you unequivocally that my Ateneo Computer Science Education really became the foundation of my success.
It started with my Computer Science teachers who did their very best teaching us how to write very
simple programming codes, to the computer lab sessions and very difficult and challenging
programming assignments.

The basic knowledge that I learned then, I still use them today in my job and that is not an exaggeration. For example, I sometimes still write computer programs and coach others to write programs and I still use the if-else conditions, for and while loops, functions the debugging techniques that I learned in college and so much more because they are the same until today.

I also learned that computer programming is sometimes very frustrating especially if your program does not compile or does not do what it is intended to do. The patience and the perseverance that I learned then have become very useful to me in my job and my life overall.

So if you think you have what it takes to be an IT professional, I encourage you to study and learn
Computer Science or similar programs. I believe that even with the advancement in technology
especially in AI (Artificial Intelligence), analysts and programmers are still needed in the future.
And in any case, as long as you have that foundational and advanced knowledge in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) you will be irreplaceable.

My advice is that while learning Computer Science, also make sure that you take the other classes very seriously, especially Physics and Algebra because I can tell you that these skills are not replaceable. And
of course, don’t just ignore the religion class. With STEM and religion, you are guaranteed to be formidable in your life and career.”
