From Subic to Zamboanga: In Search for Partnership

The Ateneo de Zamboanga Social Development Units (AdZU-SDU),  through the Center for Community Extension Services (CCES) and in partnership with the Silsilah Dialogue Movement, will spearhead a Forum dubbed “From Subic to Zamboanga: In Search for Partnership”, on September 24, from 1:00 – 6:00 pm at the Yakan Function Hall, Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City.

The Forum aims to deepen our understanding of the decade-long issues concerning land use and land ownership between the Zamboanga Special Economic Zone (ZAMBOECOZONE) and the Subanon Indigenous People (IP) of Zamboanga City. It also seeks to cull insights from the shared experiences of Subic-Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the Ayta’s Joint Management Agreement.

This activity hopes to bring together stakeholders who are directly affected by the issues such as the ZAMBOECOZONE and the Subanon IPs, and those who are actively involved in addressing the issues such as those coming from the Academes, the Local Government Units (LGUs), the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

The Forum is designed to have four major sessions with the following foci: Session I- Understanding the Joint Management Agreement; Session II –  Legal Bases of the Issues; Session III – Indigenous People’s Perspectives; and,  Session IV –  Strategies for Action.

Mr Christopher Lawrence S. Arnuco, Chairman of the ZAMBOECOZONE,  and Datu Cosme M. Lambayon, Northern and Western Mindanao NCIP Commissioner are among the invited resource persons.

The Forum’s highlight is the sharing of experience of the Ayta Ambala regarding Ancestral Domain Claim and the SBMA-Ayta Joint Management Agreement by Hon. Roberto V. Garcia, Chairman of the Subic-Bay Metropolitan Authority and Mr. Bonifacio Florencio, President of the Samahang Katutubong Aytang Pastolan.

The Forum is open to the public. Interested parties may contact them through the following:  mobile:  09057066603 ; email: cces@host.adzu.edu.ph/revamp .
