CCES teams up with NCIP, SISBA for Ancestral Domain Community Mapping

by Patrick Dale Angelo C Rivera, SHS Student Intern

Intensifying the mission of empowering indigenous communities, AdZU Center for Community Extension Services (CCES) joins forces with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the Simariki Island Sama Bangingi Association (SISBA) for the Community Map Validation of Sama-Bangingi ICC Ancestral Domain (AD) last September 11, 2019 at Simariki Island, Barangay Talon-Talon.

Spearheaded by Dr Robert V Panaguiton and CCES, SISBA started its AD claim process on December 17, 2018. The community mapping is part of the claim process under the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) that aims to outline the parameters of the IP’s territory.

CCES also took charge of documenting historical events of the Sama Bangingi tribe and conducting surveys on marking parameter points. This development is made possible by the Assisi Development Foundation, Inc (ADFI).
