Tumaga Campus to host Alumni Night; AtFest takes Unity to center stage

The University’s Basic Education Complex in the Kreutz campus in Tumaga will host this year’s Alumni Welcome Program and Fellowship Night. A first in the history of the Ateneo alumni homecoming, the event will kick off at 7 tonight at the football field.

Earlier today, a golf tournament tee-off opened the alumni homecoming at the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club in Upper Calarian. Registration started early this morning and will last til 2pm at Gates 1 and 5 of the Salvador campus in La Purisima. To follow this afternoon at 3 is the Jubilarians’ Mass at the University Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (UCSHJ) and a motorcade immediately after from La Purisima campus to Tumaga campus. Another first in the history of the alumni homecoming, the motorcade takes the place of the torch and lantern parade of yesteryears.

Meanwhile, this year’s Ateneo Fiesta, with the theme “One Celebration. One Family. One Ateneo.” continues the celebration today with a forum on Educating for Peace through history and film. At the same time, the different colleges and units are on the homestretch competing in both sport and non-sport events. The music fest cum open mic will still be on tonight along Paseo de Maria.

Slated tomorrow, Day 6 of the AtFest is a free legal services outreach by the University’s College of Law, while outstanding AdZU alumni will be feted in the yearly Alumni Awards Ceremony to be held at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall (CDCH). As a fitting closing for the day, the best voices will battle it out in a choral extravaganza.

The 2015 Ateneo Fiesta will come to a close on December 6 with a dancesport competition, a talent expo and the much-awaited announcement of the various winners of the different events during the closing program. The alumni, on the other hand, will gather for the Alumni Homecoming Mass at the UCSHJ at 9am and spend a Blue and White Night at 6pm in Palmeras.

The finale of the week-long festivities is the Institutional Mass on December 8 at 10am at the UCSHJ–in thanksgiving and celebration of the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Before this, Fr Salvador Wee, SJ will talk on “The True and Original Mary” at 8:30am at the CDCH.
