by Romeo Rabajante, CSIT Information Officer

AdZU BS New Media & Computer Animation (BSNMCA) alumni bring home a whopping 18 awards including Best Animated Film from the Zamboanga Film Festival (ZFF) Awards Night last February 22, 2020 at Centro Latino.

Six out of the 10 animated films submitted by AdZU alumni bagged multiple awards in the Animation Category.

Among the winners are filmmaking veterans Carl Venson Zarraga’s “Luminous”, which took home Best Animated Film, Best Animator, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects; and Alana Lois Alano’s “Quebradura”, which took home 3rd Best Film and Best Character Design.

Other winners during the ZFF2020 Awards Night are Hazel Rosie Bayaras’ “The Rope”, which won 2nd Best Film, Best Director and Best Editing; Jessamin Damsid’s “Elated”, which won Best Original Story; Chad Delos Santos’ “Malengag” which won Best Culture-Sensitive Film; and Shantelle Marie Molina’s “Watching Over Yana”, which won Viewers’ Choice Award.

From a blue whale who sells his happiness in return for broken hearts, to a solar-powered toy looking for the light, to an Igorot warrior battling an ever-feared aswang; AdZU artists bring life to the different facets of human experiences and culture through creative irony and storytelling.

Other films submitted by AdZU BSNMCA alumni also include “Distance” by Clint Maverick Wee, “Monster” by Gazelle Lenes, “Stuffed” by Jarild Ken Maravilla, and “The Shoemaker’s Shop” by Arwa Ajirim.

Zarraga’s Luminous previously received a Special Citation for Animation during the 7th Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition-2019 and the Best Animated Film Award during the 17th Mindanao Film Festival; while Alano’s Quebradura received the Best Student Film and Best Sound during the 17th Mindanao Film Festival.

ZFF2020 showcases the best films made by our Zamboangueño filmmakers during Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga celebration.
