The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU), through its Center for Community Extension Services (CCES), brought smiles and joy to the learners and teachers of Simariki School for Indigenous Peoples on February 12, 2025. This outreach initiative aimed to support the Sama-Bangingi Indigenous Cultural Community by providing essential supplies and gifts, reinforcing AdZU’s commitment to inclusive education and social responsibility.

A total of 87 learners and four teachers received gift packages filled with goodies, toys, and school bags. The excitement and gratitude from the children were evident, as their bright smiles and laughter created a heartwarming atmosphere throughout the event. For many, these simple yet thoughtful presents made the day truly special.
This act of generosity was made possible through the unwavering support of Ms. Ditas Yakaba, a dedicated advocate for the welfare of the Sama-Bangingi community. Her ongoing efforts to uplift Indigenous Peoples have inspired various outreach initiatives, including this meaningful project that fosters hope and encouragement for both learners and educators.
Special recognition was also given to Ms. Sheila Agan from the Campus Ministry and Ms. Gladys Badlaon from the Senior High School Campus Ministry Office, whose invaluable contributions ensured the success of the event. Their dedication highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in making a tangible impact on underserved communities.

Beyond the gifts, the initiative served as a reminder of the power of kindness and solidarity. It strengthened AdZU’s bond with the Sama-Bangingi community, promoting education, inclusivity, and cultural respect. By addressing the needs of Indigenous learners, the university continues to champion holistic development and empowerment.

Through projects like this, AdZU reaffirms its mission of serving marginalized communities and fostering generosity, compassion, and social justice. As the university continues to expand its outreach efforts, it remains committed to creating lasting, positive change in the lives of Indigenous Peoples.
