BOY SCOUTING

RATIONALE

Participation in Boy Scouting means enjoying a lot of things together with other scouts.

Scouting provides great adventure in outdoor learning. It designs activities that bring about the development of skills that will turn boys into dependable and self-reliant men. As they advance to higher ranks, the merit badges they earn will make their world larger. After exploring varied fields of skills and knowledge, they will be helped to choose a hobby or life work. Through the Eagle Scout Badge or the Jose Rizal Scout Badge, the highest ranks in Boy Scouting, they will pretty soon fulfill their dreams and follow the examples set by our greatest national hero.

Lord Baden Powell, the founder of scouting said that “a scout is one who thoroughly trains himself in scoutcraft and places that training at the disposal of the community for public service.” The badges they wear are symbols, which say that they will continue to build and to keep friendship, give happiness to others with their daily good deeds, and live the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. Scouts grow up to be upright and respectable citizens of the community and of the country.

A scout is somebody all of us can be proud of.

OBJECTIVES

1. Participate in activities that promote responsible citizenship and leadership.

2. Practice desirable social, cultural, moral and spiritual values.

3. Make wise choices and good decisions.

4. Show love and respect for the family and person of authority in the community.

5. Participate in various activities to promote internalization in values.

6. Engage in hobbies and practical skills that will lead to profitable sources of livelihood.

7. Join outdoor activities that develop physical fitness, skills for self-reliance, and resourcefulness.

8. Communicate with others scouts to promote world Brotherhood.

9. Undertake activities that will foster brotherhood within one’s immediate group and in the community.

10. Join interesting and meaningful activities that will satisfy one’s needs and nurture one’s capabilities for hiking, camping and other scouting activities.

11. Participate in nature conservation, environment hygiene, preservation of the nature resources of the country, and other community service projects.

12. Show love of God by loving and taking care of His creation.

GIRL SCOUTING

RATIONALE

The Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) movement opens many doors to adventure and freedom for the young and growing Filipinos. With sincere dedications, the new Girl Scout has a chance to live useful experiences for herself and others, know more about the world and gain further insights into her own self.

But scouting cannot be deeply appreciated without a full understanding of a young woman’s development. While going through a lot of experiences in her road to maturity, the young woman is blooming very fast and encountering the hardship of growing up. She meets the challenges of a changing world. This is true not only physically, but mentally and socially as well. Every year, she must have good training and bearing to balance the pressures that seem to be around all at once. Girl scouting can be a key to good upbringing, for through this movement, the scout gets a chance to develop sound social, mental and physical traits which are useful as she grows up. This happens through interacting with other girls and with society as a whole.

OBJECTIVES

Girl Scouting seeks to develop the total personality of the individual not only for her personal interest but also for the home, the community and the nation as a whole.

It aims to:

a. complement and supplement the knowledge and experiences learned at home, in school and in church, and in other social-civic organization;

b. provide opportunities for service by implementing a well planned program of activities that will help the young realize their present and future roles as active and participating citizens of our country; and

c. develop dynamic and creative thinkers who can disseminate and put into practice all beneficial/useful information.

Basic qualifications of a good Girl Scout

She must possess the following:

1. Character –

She must possess a good moral character to attract girls and other people to rely and depend on her whenever and wherever she is needed. She must be honest, humble, obedient, courteous, helpful and loyal.

2. Health –

A Girl Scout is expected to be healthy in order to

experience the joyous excitements and adventures of scouting.

3. Creativity –

This is to help girls realize the ideals of womanhood and prepare them for their responsibility in the homes and in the community.

4. Service to others –

The slogan “Do a good turn daily.” Doing a good turn means service that comes from the heart, it must be done cheerfully, quietly and without fan free.
