Protocol on Suspension of Classes due to severe weather conditions

29 June 2016

MEMO TO :  THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

RE :PROTOCOL ON SUSPENSION OF CLASSES DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS

We usually expect inclement weather conditions at this time of the year, but accurate prediction can be a challenge. We, thus, issue the following guidelines:

1.     Please monitor announcements, especially those coming from the City Mayor, made on reputable local radio stations like ABSCBN, Dateline Zamboanga, E-media, and RMN. The City Mayor is authorized to suspend classes, and we are expected to follow. If the City Mayor’s office makes an announcement of suspension of classes, we will automatically suspend classes accordingly.

2.     When the decision calls for the discretion of school heads, AdZU shall disseminate the decision of the University President immediately through the following:

a) Official text message (“ADZU ADVISORY”) from the President and the University Communications Office through the Director, Ms May Lucas or the Communications Officer, Ms Leah Panaguiton.

b) Our official AdZU Facebook account;

c) Radio stations;

d) AdZU webpage and community email;

e) AdZU telephone operator and/or guard (outside office hours); and

f) Members of the Presidential Management Team, which include the AVP, Grade School, Junior and Senior High School Principals, who will disseminate the information through their unit text brigades, which will reach students and parents as soon as possible.

3. If classes are not suspended, and if conditions render it difficult to go to school due to flooding and strong rains in certain areas, we encourage everyone to exercise discretion and make appropriate decisions for their safety, especially of the young children. The academic units will ensure that consideration on attendance and tardiness be given.

Thank you.

FR KAREL S SAN JUAN SJ

University President
