Peace Art Exhibit and Giant Peace Formation in Ateneo Fiesta 2014

Peace Art Exhibit and Giant Peace Formation in Ateneo Fiesta 2014

The Ateneo Peace Institute (API) and Gallery of the Peninsula and Archipelago (GPA) in partnership with the Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and Katilingban Para saLalambuan Inc, launched the “Arts Peacetival” Peace Art Exhibit on December 2 2014 at the GPA as part of the Mindanao Week of Peace 2014 celebration.

The exhibit features art works by women community health workers and a few men from a series of healing sessions dubbed as “Art Healing”. The series of art is a product of healing sessions designed to provide spaces for community health workers to journey into their selves. The products resonate with this year’s Week of Peace theme: Healing the Past, Building the Future.

Present during the ribbon cutting ceremony held on December 2, 2014 were Fr Angel Calvo, PAZ President, Ms Perla Ledesma, API director and Ms Lorna Jumalon Fernandez, artist mentor during the healing sessions. The CHW artists were also represented during the ribbon cutting ceremony.

In solidarity with the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace, the ADZU community also formed a giant peace sign during the Ateneo Fiesta’s Opening Parade on December 1. The community also advocated activities that promoted volunteerism, support for local products, and social involvement during the week long festivity.
