The Natural Sciences Department under the School of Arts and Sciences of Ateneo de Zamboanga University hosted a seminar-workshop entitled “Our Microbes: Discoveries and Applications” on February February 7-8 for high school students and February 14-15 for Claret High School students at the Biology Laboratory in Salvador Campus.
This is a two-day seminar workshop which includes lectures and hands-on workshop on general and applied microbiology for different applications. Lecture topics include Microbial Diversity, Microbial Cultivation, Aseptic Technique, Microbial Taxonomy, Microbial Novel Drugs, and Lichens. There are also hands-on workshops such as Transfer and Culture, Isolation Techniques, Identification and Characterization, and Antimicrobial Assay to give the students first-hand experience on procedures. The speakers were faculty members of the Natural Sciences Department.
The goal of the workshop is to provide students with knowledge on the different concepts in microbiology and their applications through lectures and workshop series.
