Moreno presents ADZU peace program in Catholic schools confab

The integration of peace agenda in the school curriculum is gaining ground among private Catholic schools.

This was signified by participants in a session on the topic with Ateneo de Zamboanga University president Antonio F. Moreno, SJ as speaker during the 2009 Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Convention on September 16 to 18 in Manila.

Helping Build Peace through Peace Education and Inter-faith Dialogues: The Case of Mindanao was one of the 16 concurrent sessions on the second day of the convention. All sessions dealt with issues relevant to heads of Catholic schools in the country.

Fr. Moreno presented to over 100 participants how ADZU integrated peace advocacy into the school’s curricula. Fr. Moreno shared that active engagement in the peace agenda with major stakeholders in Zamboanga City and the region has moved ADZU to the forefront of a sustainable program.

Linkages to other schools, non government organizations, religious and civic organizations empowers the people to take active roles in peace building, Moreno added.
