Mass and Interreligious Prayer for Peaceful, Credible, Fair and Successful Elections

5 May 2010

MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY

RE: MASS AND INTERRELIGIOUS PRAYER FOR PEACEFUL, CREDIBLE, FAIR AND SUCCESSFUL ELECTIONS

The AdZU community will have a Mass and interreligious prayer service on 07 May, Friday.  We will begin with a Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, 3.30 PM, then follows immediately an interreligious prayer service at the Bellarmine-Campion lobby, 4.30 PM.  In the light of recent events, I urge the participation of all especially in the interfaith prayer service.  From 3.30 PM until 5.30 PM, classes and offices will be suspended.

I continue to urge our community members to register as election volunteers through the SACSI Office.  I take this opportunity to thank you all for your electoral engagements.  I thank especially SACSI, led by its Director Ms Cellyn A Verallo, and the Social Development Council, coordinated by Mr Francis H Arroyo for all their works within the university, with PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) and with UF HOPE (United Front for Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Elections).

Needless to say, there will be no offices and classes on 10 May, Monday.  I continue to urge everyone to be involved either through active partisan campaign (but not in the name of AdZU) or through non-partisan engagement before, during and after election day.  Both are important modes of exercising our citizenship.  I ask everyone to pray and work for the success of our elections – the first automated electoral exercise in the history of Philippine politics.
