MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY
RE: LECTURE AND BOOK LAUNCHING OF BISHOP CLAVER’S “THE MAKING OF A LOCAL CHURCH”
I wish to inform you that the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in partnership with the Archdiocese of Zamboanga will sponsor a lecture of Bishop Francisco F Claver SJ DD and launching of his newly published book titled “The Making of a Local Church.” This will be held in Centro Pastoral, Gov Camins Avenue, Zamboanga City on 22 July, Wednesday, 2.00 PM.
This joint sponsorship is timely and fitting since we are currently celebrating our 150 years of the return of the Jesuits to Philippines (Mindanao being initially the geographical intention of their missionary work) and the Archdiocese of Zamboanga as a local church is celebrating its Centennial Jubilee in 2010. Much of what Bishop Claver writes in this book is rooted in his local church experience here in Mindanao. Arguably he was one of the most influential bishops in the Philippine church during the years of democratic transition.
I invite you all to this lecture cum book launching. Buses will run from 1.30 PM in front of the LRC building.
