Languages Department Holds Taboan Satellite Activity-A Gathering of Writers in Western Mindanao

In celebration of the National Arts Month, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts through its National Committee on Literary Arts, conducts its flagship project the Taboan: Philippine Writers Festival. This year, the Languages Department of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University is fortunate to have been granted funding for the Taboan Satellite Activity in Western Mindanao titled “Cosechas: A Harvest of Poems and Stories from Western Mindanao”. The activity will be held on February 24-25, 2012 at Campion Lecture Hall, ADZU Main Campus.

The satellite activity will showcase the literary works of writers from Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Jolo, and Zamboanga Peninsula and will provide venue for multicultural exchange among these writers. The activity will consist of two parts: (1) readings of poetry and excerpts of fiction, and (2) conversations with writers focusing on their concerns and challenges as writers.

Participants of this satellite activity will have the rare opportunity to meet Mr. Danny Reyes, a prolific writerand the former head of Heights, Ateneo de Manila University’s premier literary organization. Mr. Reyes will share his knowledge of and experiences in writing literature with the participants.
