Languages Department conducts Most Fluent Reader contest

The Languages Department conducted an oral reading fluency contest dubbed as The Most Fluent Reader 2011 among Grade 5 and 6 pupils from both public and private elementary schools in the city. The contest hoped to bring together the best readers in the elementary schools and to celebrate their exceptional skills in reading. It also aimed to reinforce the teaching of fluency in the elementary schools in the city. The contest was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Brebeuf Gymnasium, Ateneo de Zamboanga University Main Campus.

For this year, Ma. Pola Maxine G. Rumbaoa, a Grade 5 pupil of Pilar College, bagged the Most Fluent Reader award. Allan Mar R. Lim, a Grade 6 pupil of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and Mikaela Rene Anjalique J. Yeo, a Grade 6 pupil of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, placed First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up, respectively. The winners were awarded cash prizes and symbolic trophies.

The contest was made possible through the support of Zamboanga City Division of Department of Education and Office of the Representative of District I of Zamboanga City and sponsorships of ABIVA Publishing House and Education Development Center.

When asked to give short messages about the contest, Dr. Rebecca V. Fernandez and Cong. Isabelle C. Salazar were in agreement that it was an “interesting” and “relevant” activity.
