Job Fair yields 12 on the spot hires

Twelve (12) applicants were hired on-the-spot at this year’s Job Fair held November 17-18 at the Multi-Purpose Covered Courts.

The 12 were among the 269 registered applicants, composed mostly of fourth year students and some alumni. “This is the first time that the alumni joined the job fair,” said College Guidance and Counseling Office (CGCO) director Norma A. Baluca. “In the past, it was exclusively for graduating students,” she added.

Forty-five companies participated in the job fair, consisting of private companies, government agencies, banks, schools, hospitals, and overseas agencies, offering a total of 5,225 vacancies, both for local and international employment.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – ZC field office chief labor and employment officer Engr. Wesley D. Tan, in his keynote told participants that whenever they go job hunting, they should bear in mind the acronym ATENEO: A –have right Attitude, T – Talk to the guidance counselor about career options, E -highlight their internship Experience, N – build a Network with friends and colleagues, E – have confidence in their Ateneo Education, and O – know that it’s Okay to ask the interviewer questions.

The annual job fair, conducted by the CGCO under its Career Development and Placement Program (CDPP),in collaboration with the Ateneo Alumni Relations Office and College Parents Council,aims to equip graduating students and alumni with job interview experiences, and givethem the opportunity to establish networks with company representatives, thus, enhance their career opportunities.
