MEMO TO: UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY
RE: FR RANDOLPH “RANDY” L LUMABAO, SJ, 1954-2014
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University community mourns the passing of Fr. Randolph “Randy” L. Lumabao, SJ. He died Saturday morning, 17 May 2014, in Malaybalay City. He was found on the floor of his room in the Jesuit Retreat House, apparently having suffered major heart failure. Rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead at about 10:30 AM. Fr. Randy had been dealing with some health issues the past few years.
Fr. Randy, 59, entered the Society of Jesus on 30 May 1979, and was ordained priest on 8 April 1989. He has been Superior of the Bukidnon Mission District since 2010, and has served in several apostolates of the Philippine Province Jesuits. He was a member of the Province Commission on Ministries. Fr. Randy was an alumnus of Ateneo de Zamboanga (GS 1967, HS 1971, CO 1975). He graduated valedictorian of High School Class 1971, and taught theology at Ateneo de Zamboanga College before he joined the Society of Jesus.
The wake for Fr. Randy will be at the Jesuit Retreat House Malaybalay, starting Sunday night 18 May 2014, at 8:00 PM. The funeral Mass is scheduled at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, 21 May in San Isidro Labrador Cathedral, Malaybalay City. Interment follows in Shepherd’s Meadow, Malaybalay, immediately after the Mass.
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University community will hold a Mass for Fr. Randy and his family in the next few days. Please keep posted. We invite his friends, classmates, and students to attend.
