Ferndale Colleges Empowers Out-of-School Youth with “Mastering Resume: Building for Career Success” Program

Zamboanga City, Philippines – Ferndale Colleges Zamboanga Peninsula Inc. recently concluded a 3-day training program aimed at empowering the out-of-school youth (OSY) with essential resume-building skills. Held at Ferndale Campus, Bg. Bldg Veterans Avenue from December 7 to 9, 2023, the initiative was named “Mastering Resume: Building for Career Success,” it addressed the critical need for effective resume crafting among OSY in Zamboanga City.

Ferndale hosted a comprehensive training program to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the competitive job market.

The project was a collaborative effort between Ferndale Colleges and the Ateneo Learning and Teaching Excellence Center (ALTEC), emphasizing the importance of partnerships in addressing societal challenges. ALTEC provided resources, expertise, and support, aligning the project’s goals with their mission to empower youth and promote sustainable development.

The “Mastering Resume: Building for Career Success” program implemented by Ferndale Colleges employed a series of strategic methodologies to empower the OSYs with essential resume-building skills. These methodologies included conducting a thorough needs assessment to understand specific challenges, forging a strong partnership with ALTEC, developing a comprehensive curriculum focused on resume essentials, structuring interactive workshops to enhance engagement, inviting guest speakers and industry experts to provide insights, providing participants with resource materials for continued support, fostering peer learning and networking opportunities, establishing post-training support mechanisms, and implementing an evaluation process for continuous improvement. Through these approaches, the program addressed the needs of the OSYs and equipped them with the tools for their employment endeavors.

The “Mastering Resume: Building for Career Success” program marks a significant milestone in Ferndale Colleges’ commitment to empowering youth and fostering employability in the community. With the support of ALTEC and its partners UNICEF and SAP, the initiative has equipped OSY with the skills and confidence to pursue meaningful employment opportunities, ultimately contributing to their socio-economic advancement.
