MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY
RE: FATHER MANUEL M SAURAS SJ HALL
In the 26 February 2011 AdZU Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting, the BOT members agreed to name the new building (back of the Brebeuf Gym) in honor of Father Manuel M Sauras SJ, the founder and first Director of Escuela Catolica who established it in 1912. Escuela Catolica became Ateneo de Zamboanga in 1916. As we inch our way to celebrate our Centennial Jubilee next year, it is only but fitting that we honor Fr Sauras whose vision and commitment gave birth to our Ateneo community here.
Sauras Hall will be made partially open on 13 June, Monday, for the canteen (first and second floors) and the Xavier University College of Law – Zamboanga (third floor). For the time being, I ask the members of the community to stay clear of the construction site until it is completed and declared safe by authorities.
We aim to have the blessing and inauguration of Sauras Hall on 29 July 2011, a few days before the Feast of St Ignatius, the founder of the Society of Jesus. Details of the blessing and inauguration will be released in due time.
I would like to thank the following who made it possible for us to construct Sauras Hall on campus: Engr Romeo Voltaire R Garcia (project manager) and all the workers, the members of the project team (Engr Ronaldo A Serimogan, Engr Victor E Tierra, Engr Santiago S Navarro, Mr Roberto G Valerio, Bro Raymund E Belleza SJ, Engr Aldrin A Hitalia, Mr Ariel D Delgado and Mr Mario S Rodriguez), the construction suppliers, and all who supported this project.
Congratulations!
Antonio F Moreno SJ
