Students Make Waves in Research, Receives DOST Thesis Grant
Four students from the AdZU College of Science and Information Technology (CSIT)
pave the way for research and development under the Department of Science and
Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD)
Undergraduate Thesis Grant In Natural Products, for their researches in
studying the antifungal and antibacterial effects of local fruits and plant
parts.
The
two researches, endorsed by the Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and
Development (ZCHRD) and the DOST IX, which qualified for the grant, are as
follows:
• “Antifungal effects of Soursoup (Annona Muricata L.) leaf, Durian (Durio
zibethinus Murr.) fruit hull and sugar apple (Annona squamosal L.) seed
extracts” by Fatima Dia Ahaja, Rania Malali, and Jamaica Delos Reyes (Adviser)
• “Antibacterial, antioxidant and cytotoxicity activities of Dieffenbachia
longispatha Engl. & K. Krause (Dumb Canes)” by Candeline Galvan, Najwa
Molina and Dr. Rosario Espinosa (Adviser)
Representatives from the DOST-PCHRD, DOST IX, ZCHRD, and AdZU Research Center
were present during the discussion of the content of the Memorandum of
Agreement between the researchers and DOST-PCHRD. The researchers will receive
a thesis grant amounting to P50,000.00 to finish their studies.
