MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY
RE: CENTENNIAL JUBILEE OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF ZAMBOANGA
These days the Archdiocese of Zamboanga is preparing to launch the celebration of its Centennial Jubilee. The Diocese of Zamboanga was created on 10 April 1910, the first diocese of Mindanao. Two years after the creation of the Diocese, Escuela Catolica (later Ateneo de Zamboanga) was established as a parochial school of the Immaculate Conception Parish. This is therefore a moment of grace for our local church here. I urge the Catholics to participate in the activities commemorating the 100th year of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. The highlight of these activities is the Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (MCIC) on 12 April, Monday, 9.00 AM. Expected to come are Archbishop Joseph Edward Adams, the Papal Nuncio to the Philippines; His Eminence Gaudencio B Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila; His Eminence Ricardo J Cardinal Vidal, Archbishop of Cebu; (Arch)bishops and other dignitaries.
Some selected classes will be asked to attend the Mass mentioned above. I ask the office and unit heads to make flexible arrangements to enable our staff to join the Mass without disruption of work.
Let us thank and bless the Lord for the gift of our local church without which AdZU would not have been established.
