ADZU School of Medicine films emerge victorious in Global Forum 2015 Health Film Festival
Entries of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine won in the Global Forum on Research and Innovation for Health 2015 Film Festival held on August 24-27, 2015 in Metro Manila, Philippines.
The film festival was one of the highlights of the international forum. Film entries featured the forum’s themes: Social Accountability, Increasing Investments, Country-driven Capacity Building, Food and Nutrition Safety and Security, Health in Mega Cities and Disaster Risk Reduction.
The winning video and poster entries were produced by ADZU-SOM dean Dr. Fortunato L. Cristobal.
The film, “A New Breed of Doctors”, won Best Documentary Film. It was directed by Dexter D. Dela Peña (ADZU BS Mass Communication 2011).
The film “Community transforming Doctors, Doctors Transforming Communities”, also directed by Dela Peña, won People’s Choice Best Poster and was shortlisted for Best Short Film.
The poster layout executed by Mikko B. Villasin, a sophomore medical student.
The winning entries will be distributed to the network of video libraries for education, advocacy and training purposes.
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University – School of Medicine (ADZU-SOM), is a medical school committed to social accountability through its Community Engaged Medical Education driven curriculum. The two film entries feature the paradigm shift of redesigning a medical doctor’s training. The two films competed with 11 other documentary and 10 other short films.
The awards ceremony was held on August 27, 2015 during the forum’s closing ceremony held at the PICC Reception Hall.
